Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website that features videos and comments analyzing the portrayals of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that investigates representations of women in the popular media narratives. Committed to destroying the stereotypes related to women in popular media, she is also working on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals online. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. A woman with ambitions to launch a web-series that would examine the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by an online campaign. She was not deterred by the assault, the fact is that it only bolstered her desire to become feminist and media critic. She has won numerous awards in recognition of her many notable contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit that explores the representations of women within pop media stories.
