
Rosie Perez, born Rosa Maria Perez on September 6 1964 is an American actress and choreographer. Her breakthrough was with Tina's performance in Do the Right Thing (1989), and then White Men Can't Hop (1992). Perez's performance as Tina , in Fearless (1993) has earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Perez has appeared in a number of films since then which include It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado ((2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2021). She was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Award nominations, one for In Living Color (1990-1994) as well as another nomination for her role in The Flight Attendant (2020-2021). Her roles have included Broadway stage plays , including The Ritz and Frankie, Johnny in the Clair de Lune and Fish in the Dark. She also co-hosted on the ABC talk show The View during the series in the 18th season. She attended Grover Cleveland High School, in the Ridgewood neighborhood in Queens. Her mother was in poverty in Woodside Houses by 1999. Her death was due to AIDS-related complications in 1999.
